Celebrating 21 Years of EGA – Ticket Offer, Thank You & Ways to Support
Greetings, fine botanical friends and EGA supporters
This year marks 21 years of ethnobotanical education through Entheogenesis Australis (EGA). It’s remarkable to consider that for over two decades, we have been cultivating community understanding of ethnobotanical plants and psychedelic culture in Australia. EGA remains a volunteer-fueled charity, driven by people, passion, and persistence, although much has changed since our first gathering in 2004.

If you would like to revisit some of EGA’s journey, take a wander through our History Page. It has been quite a transformation, from the early days of stigma and silence, to a time when psychedelic research has returned to the mainstream and substances like psilocybin and MDMA are now, in theory, being prescribed in very limited settings. Still, accessibility remains a challenge. From our perspective, decriminalisation and sensible reform would have the greatest positive impact for most Australians, particularly around our cherished ethnobotanical plants.
In recent years, Australia has witnessed the beginnings of a 'Psychedelic Renaissance'. After decades of silence, local researchers have launched pioneering clinical trials exploring psilocybin-assisted therapy for conditions including anxiety and depression in terminally ill patients, and treatment-resistant depression. Leading this work were Dr Margaret Ross of St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, and Dr Martin Williams of Psychedelic Research in Science & Medicine (PRISM), a seedling project of EGA. Their groundbreaking research has opened the door for a new generation of psychedelic studies and helped refocus public understanding of these important medicines.
But today we are here to celebrate EGA itself, a grassroots charity whose influence can be felt far beyond what is easily measured. Since the beginning, EGA has offered a safe and supportive space for honest, informed and compassionate discussion around psychedelics and plant knowledge. In the early 2000s, these conversations were still clouded by stigma, but today they are part of a growing public dialogue we helped to seed.
EGA events have hosted more than 500 lectures and 100 workshops, many of which are freely available to the community on our EntheoTV YouTube channel. We have also published six volumes of the EGA Journal, celebrating Australian scholarship, art, and ethnobotanical research, alongside a range of harm reduction and educational resources, including our Mushroom Identification Guides for Psilocybe subaeruginosa and P. cubensis, as well as The Entheogen Combination Matrix. Through collaborations with partners like Kahpi Ethnobotanical Hub, we continue to publish articles and offer educational courses that explore the healing power of plants.
EGA is internationally recognised as one of the longest-running and most unique ethnobotanical psychedelic conferences in the world. Over the course of more than two decades, we’ve hosted a wide range of gatherings, from intimate seminars to our celebrated multi-day outdoor conferences. The next of these, Garden States: Regeneration, will take place in just six weeks, from Friday 28 November to Monday 1 December 2025.
With all this in mind, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to you, the community, who have made everything we do possible. This email is both a celebration and an invitation to continue supporting this living, growing project that has carried the ethnobotanical flame for 21 years and counting.
Respectfully,
The Entheogenesis Australis Team - Planting seeds for earth, body, and mind.
