Mental Health Crisis
A practical guide to assisting people who are experiencing challenging or overwhelming non-ordinary states. This includes both voluntary non-ordinary states induced through use of entheogenic substances, shamanic practices or recreational drugs; and involuntary non-ordinary states, often referred to as spiritual emergency, psychospiritual crisis or psychosis.
Jonathan Davis is a writer, filmmaker and lecturer based in Northern NSW. Jonathan regularly publishes articles on UpliftConnect.com about issues such as mental health, trauma, addiction and non-ordinary states of consciousness. Jonathan is an integration counselor for people experiencing challenges due to both voluntary and involuntary non-ordinary states. Jonathan also runs an online forum of almost 20,000 people called 'The Shamanic View of Mental Illness'. Jonathan has experience assisting and caring for people in voluntary non-ordinary states induced through practices such as Sweat Lodge and Breathwork as well as psychoactive plant ceremonies in Peru. Jonathan is currently studying a MA in Media and Communication, focusing on the crossover between storytelling and healing. He is also one of the founders of Somara Shamanic Medicine Forum, a conference which takes place in Byron Bay.
