Nano

The circle
Synopsis:
The circle is an interactive multi-person virtual drumming sound installation.
Just like a real drumming circle, drummers are positioned around a central point. At the centre of the circle are a number of depth cameras that track individual drummers. Each drummer is provided with a virtual instrument. But instead of striking a physical object, the movement of the different points of their bodies – hands, feet, elbows, head - cause sounds to be made.
Through dance, the instrument embodies the drummer. Free movement and expression allow the instrument to shape the drummer and by sharing in rhythm are able to tune in to the other drummers. By working together and finding a connection, the circle forms a group consciousness and a collective voice.
